2014 is the year of getting excited about spending a fortune on mundane things. So far this year (and the last week of 2013), we've spent at least 20 hours shopping for appliances, ceiling fans, furniture etc. Our house is really coming together - it's crazy that we'll be moving in in less than 2 months - we put in our notice at our apartment last week and now it's feeling real. They are laying bricks on the outside, and all the plumbing and electric/cables are in. Next up is drywall. Now we just have to continue working on filling this little house of ours. We ended up getting our microwave, stove/oven, and dishwasher through the builder, but decided to shop around for the fridge and washer/dryer. We went to a few stores before the holidays but it was too far out to take advantage of the sales - so now we're back at it.
We spent a lot of Saturday at the Hickory Furniture Mart in Hickory, NC. We really liked some of the stuff in the Amish Oak & Cherry store, but I don't think we saw anything we HAD to have. We're currently on the lookout for a round, extendable dining table - with the idea that it'll be our main table in this house, but maybe our kitchen table in a future home when/if we ever live somewhere with a formal dining room. We saw some beautiful pieces in Hickory, but it kills me to spend more than twice what the table costs to get the 6 chairs.
Sunday was dreary (and so rainy - I must have been ignoring the weather reports because I wasn't expecting it!) so we were lazy all morning, I made soup with some leftover taco meat from earlier in the week, and then we headed out in the afternoon to Lowe's, Home Depot, and the mall.
